Job Summary:

This position performs a variety of paraprofessional Division level Human Resources work providing assistance to the Human Resources team in the Support Services Unit as a member of the University of Wisconsin Police Department (UWPD).

This position works in a team environment to support the necessary functions within the human resources areas and serves as the primary point of contact for Division employee questions as well as advising on HR policies and procedures. The HR Business Partner is responsible for multiple functions, including hiring, recruitment, onboarding, payroll, life-cycle transactions, benefits, and employee relations.

The HR Business Partner is expected to use good judgment, maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, and act with tact and discretion.

Responsibilities:

Interprets, advises, and serves as a consultative resource to schools/colleges/divisions on strategy, policies, procedures, statutes, laws, and other human resources services to ensure compliance in accordance to policy and law.
  • 25% Serves as a consultative Human Resources resource and liaison. Interprets, advises on, applies and disseminates complex policies, procedures, and options to leadership and employees; and recommends best strategies according to established objectives and goals
  • 20% Facilitates and processes complex transactions and programs according to established policies and procedures
  • 15% Audits human resources reports to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures
  • 15% Develops and implements processes and procedures for one or many various HR functions such as employee trainings, recruitments, compensation, and payroll
  • 15% Receives and responds to inquiries in-person, via email, and through various communication mediums and relays information to appropriate entities
  • 5% Contributes to the development of strategic plans and directs staff implementation of initiatives in alignment with strategic goals
  • 5% Required to work special events and assignments as designated by the Department.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
-Minimum of 1 year experience working in Human Resources (payroll, benefits, recruitment, etc.) or related field(s).

-Professional experience managing and improving complex administrative processes.

-Strong MS Office skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

- Ability to prioritize workload and self-manage projects, handle multiple tasks, and meet strict deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of human resources principles, practices, and procedures

- Capability to conduct research, analyze data, and discuss workable solutions - Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills

The incumbent is expected to function with a high degree of independence and will routinely interpret and apply a broad-based knowledge of complex human resources laws, regulation, policies, and procedures, in coordination with the UW Madison Office of Human Resources, state and federal guidelines for affirmative action, Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Equal Employment Opportunity Act (EEO), and other state and federal employment laws.
