Job Details

The Old Dominion University Department of Communication Disorders and Special Education is inviting applications for a 12-month position as Lecturer in Special Education. This program offers a bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD degree program in Special education. Duties associated with this position include teaching undergraduate and graduate special education courses in traditional, on-campus classrooms, in field-based settings, and/or via distance learning modalities (i.e. web-conferencing, online). Additionally, this position serves as the undergraduate program director, advises undergraduate students, supervises teacher candidates seeking certification, manages contracts with public school partners, and engages in annual program outcome data reporting.

Required Qualifications

Applicant must have:

  1. Both a master’s degree and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in special education.
  2. Certification in special education with expertise in educational programming for students with mild/high-incidence disabilities accessing the general curriculum.
  3. Teaching experience in K-12 settings with diverse cultural, linguistic, and ethnic groups, and in settings that serve students with and without disabilities.
  4. Experience teaching in a post-secondary setting, providing academic advising to students in a teacher preparation program, and in completing program evaluation, data collection, and outcome reporting.
  5. Strong verbal, written, and technology skills are required, including experience teaching via distance learning modalities.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and participation in program decision-making. 

Preferred qualifications:

Preferred candidates for the position would have experience with the following:

  • Collaborative efforts involving public schools, postsecondary institutions, and/or community agencies;
  • Effective integration of technology in the instructional process;
  • Participation in accreditation review processes, including data collection and recording via WEAVE and LIVETEXT.
