The Department of Chemistry at Hamline University in Saint Paul, Minnesota invites applications for a full-time, tenure track assistant professor position in analytical chemistry.  Successful applicants must have a PhD in chemistry or a closely related field by the start date (August 2023).   A successful candidate will be able to teach analytical and instrumental courses, including an upper level laboratory. In addition, introductory courses in general chemistry, advanced courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, a non-majors chemistry course, and first year seminar (a topics course introducing new students to Hamline and critical thinking.)  Applicants need to be well versed in instrumentation and assume lead responsibility for the departmental instrument room (which would also be used for applicant’s research and courses.)  Hiring preferences would be for applicants with research interests overlapping with separation science, forensics, environmental, or bio-analytical chemistry.  Other duties include service to the department and University and research in the candidate’s area, including academic advising to students. 

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to broad liberal arts and interdisciplinary education, excellent teaching skills, experience supporting a diverse population of students, and the ability to develop a high-impact productive research program involving undergraduate researchers, who are supported through generous endowment funding.

The Chemistry Department is situated in the College of Liberal Arts and faculty who engage in research and support students with different interests and diverse backgrounds. The College of Liberal Arts, together with Hamline’s School of Business, serves approximately 1,700 undergraduate students. The University’s mission is to create a diverse and collaborative community of learners dedicated to the development of students’ knowledge, values, and skills for successful lives of leadership, scholarship, and service.

Hamline tenure-track faculty typically teach 6 courses annually, with a course release in the first year for professional development, and a 1-semester pre-tenure release from teaching responsibilities pending a successful third-year review.
