Graphic Designer

Notre Dame of Maryland University is seeking to hire a Graphic Designer who is responsible for the visual integrity of the University across all external-facing platforms, both digital and print. The Graphic Designer will assist in translating core values and messaging propositions into captivating visuals and creative campaigns for the institution.

Essential functions will include but are not limited to :

  1. Ambassador for brand standards, monitoring brand integrity and consistency across all platforms; must also analyze competitive and comparative brands to inform design process and find solutions that set the institution apart.
  2. Interface with internal clients to understand and advise on design needs, and collaborate colleagues at in concept development and design ideation. Assist in the conceptualization, design and production of a cohesive family of branded print and web materials for the institution. Design pieces include: institutional publications, mailers, advertisements, special event collateral, print and digital signage, digital communications, brochures, letters, stationery, and more.
  3. Ensure the quality and integrity of final assets for marketing campaigns and presentations as requested.
  4. Prepare clean, functional templates that anticipate design and communication needs of client, to be used by graphic design assistants and select University colleagues; preserve integrity of branded elements by demonstrating sound judgment in restricting editing capabilities, as necessary.
  5. Undertake design projects in collaboration with the marketing team, coordinating timelines and production schedules internally, liaising with print and media vendors, and attending press okays for quality-control of publications.
  6. Assists managers in ensuring required trainings are completed. Coordinate trainings with new and existing employees.
  7. Collaborate with the web team to maintain the visual integrity and ongoing design of the NDMU website. Responsible for the creation of all images and graphic elements across the site and social media platforms, adhering to best practices and precise specifications.
  8. Manage and maintain NDMU’s photography archives, selecting images for use in marketing collateral and anticipating future photography needs, with consideration of color, composition, and equal representation of institutional programs and student population


Qualifications :
  • Knowledge: Bachelor's of fine arts degree in graphic design or equivalent. Expert understanding of industrial printing processes and procedures for optimal end product: quality control, quoting, and digital-prepress technology, including check of proper color space, resolution, and bleed/trim specifications.
  • Experience : two years’ experience in graphic design and prior experience in creative agencies and/or higher education is desired.
  • Skills/Aptitude : Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, etc.) with proficiency in a Mac OS X workspace. Advanced image manipulation/editing. Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills to effectively interface with a diverse range of higher education professionals, printers, designers, and other vendors. Ability to think conceptually and effectively translate ideas into visuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong work ethic with proven ability to see projects through from concept to completion. Able to work in a fast-paced office environment. Keen understanding of digital and print best practices. Demonstrated flexibility, innovation, and interest in professional growth and learning. Extreme attention to detail for strict adherence to institution’s visual style guide and writing style guide. Proven ability to balance and prioritize a grand scope of projects simultaneously. Demonstrated ability in art direction, branding, layout and publication design, project management, and copywriting
  • Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Some overtime may be required
