Job Summary
This is a part-time, non-tenure track position. The Adjunct Instructor will teach the MATE 341 (Defects in Solids) course in the winter term 2022-2023. The course is lecture-based and meets twice a week. The course starts in January 2023 and ends in March 2023.
This is an undergraduate course that is required for all materials science and engineering majors. The course covers the main classes of crystalline defects: vacancies, dislocations, stacking faults, surfaces, grain boundaries, geometry, energy considerations, and movement of defects. The course also includes defects in specific crystallographic systems.
Essential Functions
- Teach the lecture twice a week.
- Use Black Board Learn to post class materials, assignments, and keep up-to-date grades.
- Keep records, post grades, and mentor students. Provide students with feedback.
- Submit ABET course assessment reports and course binders.
- Responsible for updating the syllabus but keep it consistent with the course requirements and meet program objectives and standards.
- Post and maintain office hours.
- Other duties as assigned by department head.
- A Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering or closely related field.
