Salary: $22.00 per hour

This is a grant-funded position. Grant-funded positions expire either at the end of the stated term or whenever funding for the position ceases.

The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking a part-time STEP Advisor in our College Pipeline Programs department. The STEP Advisor is responsible for assisting students with their goal planning and assessments; academic advisement, program instruction and learning outcomes. The STEP Advisor is expected to model the way, inspire confidence, embrace community and encourage excellence. The STEP Advisor assists with the creation and facilitation of enrichment activities in the STEP Lab as outlined by the program.

Key responsibilities for this position include:
  • Reviews student progress and tracks student use of academic support services; Adjusts prescribed pathway, as needed;
  • Consults with STEP program personnel to assess academic progress in all courses in which the students are enrolled;
  • Assists in the development of student internships, researches projects and other specialized programs within the community;
  • Maintains accurate tracking data and notes for each assigned student, recommends appropriate referrals and opportunity programs;
  • Attends college visits, other off campus events;
  • Supports annual recruitment of students;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of College Pipeline Programs and/or the STEP Coordinator.
Successful candidate must be available to work up to 29 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:30am to 4:30pm as well as some Saturdays and evenings as needed.

Qualifications:


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and demonstrated ability to work effectively and independently with students
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • A valid driver’s license at time of hire and for duration of employment
  • Ability to flex work schedule and to work evenings and weekends
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree, community college teaching/tutoring experience
  • Knowledge and experience with student development, learning styles and strategies, tutoring and specialized workshops
