The Associate Vice Chancellor & Dean of Students serves as the deputy senior student affairs officer and a member of the executive leadership team of the Division of Student Affairs. Collaborates with the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and leadership team on the development and implementation of student affairs strategic goals and objectives, including assessment and continuous improvement of student learning and services; and helps shape direction for Division of Student Affairs. Leads the efforts of the Division of Student Affairs in crisis management and behavioral assessment to include the development of policy, procedure, and protocol to ensure student safety, security, and responsiveness to critical needs. Serves as a point of contact for crisis response involving students; Advocates for student concerns/issues and acts as an agent to promote positive institutional change.


The Associate Vice Chancellor & Dean of Students provides vision and leadership to experienced directors in a portfolio that will include but is not limited to Student Conduct and CARE, as well as other units that fit with the person’s experiences and interests.
 

The specific duties and responsibilities of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs are as follows:

• Collaborate with departments in reference to student issues, budget planning, new initiatives, problem solving, grant writing, marketing, goals, assessment, etc.
• Recruit/retain a high quality diverse staff, conduct annual staff evaluations and salary reviews.
• Develop initiatives for staff development for the division.
• Participate in annual assessment for the division including CAS Standards internal and external reviews and on the SACS accreditation team.
• Assist in developing annual goals and objectives in relation to the mission and the strategic planning initiatives of the university.
• Assist in updating policies and procedures and various reports for the division.
• Work with campus leaders and faculty to achieve goals.
• Assist in providing stewardship of the budget and the facilities entrusted in the management of the division.
• Responsible for developing and monitoring special projects as assigned by the Vice Chancellor.
• Serves as a member and chair of several committees as assigned.
• Position is considered essential to the university’s operations and is a designated Campus Security Authority as required by university policy and federal law to report all crime(s) to UNCP university police.

This position is Mandatory PersonnelEmployees whose presence has been determined to be mandatory to University operations during certain types of adverse weather or emergency events.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:  Master’s degree in the area of Student Affairs Administration, College Student Personnel, Counseling or related area is required. A doctoral degree is preferred. Minimum of seven years of progressive administrative responsibility in student affairs in higher education.

• Strong project and program management and evaluations skills
• Demonstrated strengths in public speaking
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment
• Active participation in national professional associations and scholarly activities.
