Manage Employer Relations Services and Programs
 

Facilitate outreach to prospective and active employers using effective research, lead generation, prospecting, and recruiting skills while conducting employer meetings in person or virtually to build and maintain current relationships.

  • Research employment/hiring trends and students’ career interests to develop employer target lists of business, industry, government, K-12, and nonprofit organizations for generating new internship, employment and graduate school opportunities.
  • Counsel employers on the most effective means of identifying potential job candidates to meet the employer’s specific needs, including, but not limited to campus recruitment, job postings, internships, career events, and campus activities; advise employers on marketing strategies, hiring timelines, recruitment policies and expectations for event participation and student involvement.
  • Provide timely and effective responses (e.g. telephone and email) to employer inquiries regarding recruitment and employment brand building.
  • Plan, implement, and conduct outreach workshops, presentations, and programs to educate employers about UNCP, academic programs, internship standards, and employment trends.
  • Develop and facilitate Employer Advisory Council to advise, promote and evaluate services, recruitment, and corporate sponsorship efforts.
  • Work with Associate Director for Experiential Learning to develop and coordinate experiential learning opportunities for students to engage with employers
  • Collaborate with the Advancement division, academic departments, and all campus constituents to develop reciprocal employer partnerships and a coordinated employer outreach for the campus.
  • Manage the logistics for multiple employer engagement and recruitment events/programs including career fairs, networking events, mock interviews, career panels, job shadowing, field trips, job interviews, and information sessions, and ensuring all employers have a quality recruiting and campus experience while engaging with students and alumni.
  • Oversee the center’s online careers services management system, Handshake.
  • Track all employer contacts, services utilized, and recruitment activities in the system.
  • Implement approval criteria when reviewing new employer registrations and internship/job postings for legitimacy, alumni connections, accuracy, and relevance to student interests.
  • Maintain employer-related data integrity e.g. completeness of required fields and contact information.
  • Implement employer access and restrictions consistent with career center policies and resolve employer access issues.
  • Create and implement comprehensive marketing plans to systematically market employer opportunities to faculty and students, develop employer marketing materials, and coordinate the timing of communications to employers. Manage content on the employer services section of the center’s website, so that it offers valuable information and is accessible to all employing organizations.
  • Collect, manage, and evaluate recruitment data to enhance the employer and student experience. Conduct ongoing assessments, provide event feedback, and write reports. Conduct employer needs assessments to evaluate and improve services, resources, and programs for employers.

Support Internship and Experiential Learning Initiatives
 

  • Consult with employers helping them develop internships and identify best practices for their internship program including paid/unpaid options
  • Ensure all posted internship and job opportunities are satisfying user groups’ needs including employers, students, faculty, staff, and senior administration.
  • Evaluate internship/job postings and promote to career center staff, campus and students; systematically collect employer outcomes and job-offer data; provide monthly recruitment and outcomes reports.
  • Work with Associate Director for Experiential Learning to assist faculty internship coordinators in promoting, increasing, and standardizing experiential learning/internship opportunities with high-quality learning objectives and measurable outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Associate Director for Experiential Learning to develop and monitor internship policies, procedures, and guidelines in collaboration with academic affairs
  • Assist Associate Director for Experiential Learning with tracking, analyzing, and reporting internship outcomes to evaluate the program on an annual basis.

 

Support Student Development
 

  • Support Career Center team with programs and services that provide support, engagement, and guidance to help students define career interests and explore career and educational opportunities
  • Meet one-on-one with students to discuss academic and career goals and develop pathways to goal achievement
  • Collaborate with Career Center team to develop, implement, and assess career programs, presentations, and initiatives
  • Engage with students and families during institutional events, such as New Student Orientation and Open House
  • Coordinate employer and alumni connections with students in targeted career events and recruitment activities
  • Coordinate student programming about the internship search process, educate students and campus on internship opportunities and communicate the value of an internship.

 

Other Career Center Responsibilities
 

  • Assist with front office operations including greeting, answering phones, and servicing all customers
  • Assist staff planning, implementing, and coordinating all career center, services, programs, and events
  • Manage the center’s website and online careers services management system, Handshake. Track all students, services utilized, and programming attendance in the system. Implement student and alumni access and restrictions consistent with career center policies and resolve student access issues.
  • Coordinate employer and alumni connections with students in targeted career events and recruitment activities.
  • Coordinate Student and Employer Marketing Plan to promote services to students, employers, and the campus community.
  • Adhere to the NACE Principles for Ethical Professional Practice.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:  A Master’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution is required.

Management Preferences:  A Master’s degree in any field is required with preference given to those in student development, higher education administration, career counseling, or closely related field. At least one to three years of professional experience in career development, career counseling, recruiting, human resources, employer relations, or a closely related field is preferred. Demonstrated experience working with employers and effective organization and human relations skills and familiarity with hiring trends, work settings, undergraduate and graduate life, and career counseling preferred. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding or experience with work both inside and outside of higher education and work with various campus constituents (donors, alumni, students, faculty, staff, and other institutional affiliates).
