Assistant Professor – Educational Policy and Equity

The Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education (LHAE) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a specialization in Educational Policy and Equity. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2023 or shortly thereafter.

Applicants must have earned a PhD, EdD, or equivalent doctoral degree in Education or a field closely related to the specialization by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek to recruit a scholar with all of the following qualifications:

• Demonstrated research expertise in educational policy in Canada and/or the United States;
• Demonstrated expertise in qualitative research methods and orientations (for example, action research, community-oriented research, realist evaluation, ethnography, or other methods);
• A research focus that speaks to the issues faced by practitioners in the field (for example, the impacts of policies on students and communities; the policy work of teachers, school leaders, school boards, or education ministries; education in times of crisis; or other areas important to practitioners);
• Research and teaching work that has a demonstrable equity orientation.

We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance existing strengths in LHAE’s Educational Leadership and Policy program. We welcome applicants whose scholarship and teaching are informed by social justice, anti-racism, anti-colonialism, and/or other critical orientations.

Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in policy-relevant research which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.

Evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level is required, as demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, strong letters of reference, and the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application (including required materials outlined below).

Candidates must demonstrate an interest in contributing to graduate supervision and mentoring, particularly of scholar/practitioners in both practice-oriented (MEd/EdD) and research (MA/PhD) streams. Prior student supervision experience would be an asset but is not a requirement.

The successful candidate will be expected to pursue independent and innovative research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program. Other responsibilities of the position include teaching in the Educational Leadership and Policy graduate programs, supervision and mentoring of graduate students, service to LHAE and to OISE, and working collaboratively with related units across OISE.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
