POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Director of Finance and Accounting, the Staff Accountant is responsible for all areas related to cash management, investment accounting and fixed assets.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Cash Management

  • Assist with reconciliation of various cash and other balance sheet accounts Prepare monthly bank adjusting general journal entries Serve as backup to accounts payable and accounts receivable when necessary

Investment Accounting

  • Prepare and maintain accurate accounting records for various investment vehicles Prepare account reconciliations and process adjusting entries Prepare and process quarterly endowment deposits and quarterly spending policies Prepare Capital Call and Disbursement documents for investments, as needed

Fixed Assets

  • Identify and record capital purchases in fixed asset module Record disposals of assets Reconcile fixed assets for the annual audit

Other Duties:

  • Prepare month-end closing entries Prepare monthly financial reports for Department Heads and process requested adjusting entries Assist with reconciling various balance sheet accounts Process end of year 1099’s Attend and take minutes for Finance Committee meeting Participate in the annual audit and preparation of requested documentation and reports Work with Vice President for Finance and Operations and Director of Finance and Accounting on special projects as needed

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Competencies:

  • Must have high attention to detail and accuracy, with ability to multi-task Must be self-motivated and able to maintain an organized and appropriately prioritized workload Excellent communications skills, both oral and written Ability to organize task, to organize space, files, and systems to enable efficient services. Discreet, professional, and positive attitude and approach to all matters, especially confidential material, and information.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: 

  • BS degree in Finance or Accounting is preferred.

Experience:

  • 1 – 2 years of relevant accounting experience is preferred.

Technology Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites, Microsoft 365, and other databases Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge Accounting Software is preferred.

Required Skills: 

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills. Strong communication skills – written and verbal.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to lift and move library materials up to 35 pounds. Ability to bend, stoop, type, and sit for extended periods of time.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Core functions of job must be on-site.
