Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Biomechanics

 

The Department of Kinesiology and Health in the College of Education & Human Development at Georgia State University invites applications for a 10-month, tenure-track position at the assistant professor of biomechanics (Log #24-029) rank to begin in the Fall of 2023. This is a full-time academic year position. Candidates specializing in biomechanics of health sciences, sports or human performance are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Department of Kinesiology and Health is home to the exercise science undergraduate program, one of the most popular majors at Georgia State. The department serves over 1,000 graduate and undergraduate students annually in exercise science, health and physical education and sport administration, with a reputation for excellent teaching in a diverse student body. Faculty have a history of external funding from the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Education, corporations and various private agencies and organizations. They collaborate with multiple organizations on and off the university campus. The department supports state-of-the-art research and teaching laboratories in biomechanics, applied physiology, muscle biology, cardiovascular physiology, sport business and physical education pedagogy.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned Ph.D. in biomechanics or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution by the start of the position
  • Teaching experience in biomechanics or related areas
  • Demonstrated research line with a strong potential for external funding

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Research focus related to health sciences, human performance or sports biomechanics
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty within and outside the department
  • Postdoctoral training

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and pursue an externally funded research line
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in biomechanics and related areas (2-2 teaching load; teaching summer courses may be available on an annual basis)
  • Mentor and direct graduate student theses and dissertations
  • Supervise undergraduate student research fellowship or internship
  • Provide service to the department, college, university and professions
