Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

To perform diagnostic tests on a variety of samples using standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the Molecular Diagnostic Section of the Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Lab.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
  • Process and extract samples. Perform extractions. Setup conventional and real-time PCR tests.
  • Communicate with veterinarians and animal owners about submissions and ongoing testing of submitted samples.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Participate and utilize the VMDL Quality Assurance System.
  • Train student technicians.
  • Participate in monitoring inventory.
  • Attention to detail and a team player is a must.
Salary

Salary Range: $17.50 - $19.50 per hour, salary commensurate with education and experience

GGS Grade: 006

Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Progressively responsible laboratory or research experience.
