Internship Management (30%)

  • Provide a single point of contact for employers, students, faculty, and staff to navigate NAU’s internship/experiential learning system, existing and developing.
  • Maintain, update, and add to the current website and other resources for internship/experiential learning, including processes, policies, guidelines, and effective practices, making all information easily accessible.
  • Provide support and information to the Office of Curriculum, Learning Design, and Academic Assessment (OCLDAA) to enable faculty to develop meaningful learning outcomes for students in fieldwork courses.
  • Oversee/partner with responsible entities to administer coordinated, interdisciplinary internship/experiential learning programs, including:
    • Arizona State Legislative internships
    • The Washington Center internships
    • Lumberjacks Thrive Externship (in partnership with the Office of Alumni Engagement)
    • Phoenix Suns internships
    • Coconino County internships
    • City of Flagstaff internships
    • Others
  • Manage review process for internship postings in Handshake, NAU’s online recruitment system, to ensure descriptions meet national standards.
  • Maintain current knowledge of internships, experiential learning, career development, employment and recruiting trends, college student development, and other related topics as appropriate.

Internship Development and Promotion (20%)

  • Work externally to develop networks and contacts that facilitate additional internship opportunities, working in partnership with other Career Development staff, NAU faculty, and staff offices.
  • Work with local and regional employers to develop cross-functional internship programs.
  • Provide information and outreach to the community and internship providers regarding internships/experiential learning at NAU.
  • Educate internship providers on use of Handshake as well as national standards and criteria for internships set forth by the Department of Labor and National Association of Colleges and Employers.
  • Educate students on the importance of experiential learning to the college experience and future career opportunities.
  • Promote specific internship opportunities to students through Handshake, key university partners, student organizations, and other channels.

University Partnerships (20%)

  • Share critical updates and information across the university among faculty and staff who manage internships/experiential learning.
  • Work with faculty and staff to educate them on and promote compliance with NAU, ABOR, NACE and Department of Labor guidelines and goals.
  • Advise faculty, units, departments, and other entities on how to work with employers to establish and maintain effective internship/experiential learning programs including legal requirements and NAU criteria.
  • Act as liaison to other university experiential learning providers and help to support the posting and promotion of internships and encourage the use of resources during the internship search process.

Event Planning and Coordination (10%)

  • Participate in the planning, organization, and implementation of recruiting events for students and alumni to include career expos, part time job fairs, information sessions, and others.
  • Promote events to students using creative strategies that match student interests to events.

Career Advising and Education (10%)

  • Work with Career Programming team to embed benefits of internships/experiential learning into curriculum.
  • Develop and maintain internship-specific online educational modules and specialized programming using online tools (e.g. Softchalk and Blackboard Learn)
  • Advise individual students interested in internships and other experiential learning opportunities on resume/cover letter development, interview skills, and internship search strategies.
  • Conduct workshops of varying sizes (up to 100 students) on a variety of topics including resumes/cover letters, interview skills, and job search strategies.

 

Team Management and Development (10%)

  • Achieve goals established by Career Development and Student Affairs; report on progress and recommend changes to program based on assessment results.
  • Review peers’ work products and provide feedback.
  • Coordinate the activities of graduate assistants and student workers, review and provide feedback on work products, and provide general mentoring and guidance to Program Coordinators.
  • Supervise and provide mentoring for Career Development intern(s) and/or temporary employees managing internship programs.
  • Represent NAU Career Development at NAU, regionally, and beyond at conferences and other professional development events.

 Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 3-5 years teaching, counseling, or advising high school students, college students, or young professionals on career, academic, or personal development topics.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training.

Annual Salary:

The budgeted salary amount is $47,634.

**The starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
