The Department of Biology at Appalachian State University seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor with teaching and research interests in Evolutionary Developmental Biology.
We welcome applications from candidates who take cellular, molecular, and/or comparative approaches to understanding stem cell biology, organogenesis, morphogenesis, or tissue regeneration.
We have a particular interest in candidates who work with invertebrate animal model or non-model organisms using techniques such as light/electron microscopy or omics approaches to answer fundamental biological questions.
The candidate will have the opportunity to foster collaborations within the department and contribute to our new Integrative Biology concentration.

Description of the Department or Unit
The Department of Biology at Appalachian State University is a community of 36 faculty who are active in teaching and research, along with a support staff of three lab technicians and three administrators. Twenty-nine of these faculty members have earned doctorates and seven have master’s degrees. We strive to maintain a faculty with diverse research interests, ranging from molecules and cells to communities and landscape ecology. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching responsibilities will include Developmental Biology, Introduction to Zoology, participation in the Introductory Biology sequence for majors, and an advanced course in the candidate’s area of expertise.
The successful candidate is expected to develop a research program that is competitive for external funding and involves undergraduate and master’s students.
