Olive-Harvey College is looking for an adjunct instructor to teach “Entering the Cannabis Industry”. Entering the Cannabis Industry offer the training in professional skills required in the cannabis industry, based on the provisions stipulated by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). Instruction in the following skills: industry software, emotional intelligence, resume development, cover letter writing, job searching, networking, interviewing, and portfolio development. This class is a foundation course for the Urban Agriculture Department’s Basic Certificate in Applied Cannabis Studies, and an elective in the AAS degree in Applied Cannabis Studies. These programs make up the department’s credit-based curriculum. Students will acquire professional development skills for the cannabis industry and the foundational knowledge to pursue additional careers in the cannabis industry and STEM related topics.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plan, prepare and deliver instruction and facilitate the learning of students.
  • Revise, and continually update curriculum and instructional materials of an evolving industry
  • Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis, safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/participant evaluation.
  • Develop and deliver customized training for various clients as needed, and maintain involvement with business/industry/community through advisory committees, marketing and recruitment efforts, and professional associations and organizations.
  • You must demonstrate excellence in teaching, commitment to integrating new technologies in the learning process and the ability to inspire, motivate and empower students to succeed.
  • Maintain office hours for advising, mentoring and coaching students.
  • Become familiar with City Colleges of Chicago policies and standards
  • Post syllabi and grades on Brightspace.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Responsible Vendor Certification
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working in the cannabis industry.
  • Familiarity with and understanding of Illinois cannabis laws and regulations
  • Maintain the professional standards of an academic environment and willingness to adhere to City Colleges of Chicago policies.
  • Preferred 2 years of teaching experience in the academic realm
  • Awareness of dispensary operations and cultivation processing
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience and knowledge of emotional intelligence development and resume development
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
