Position Purpose
To conduct investigations ranging from allegations of misconduct and Dartmouth policy violations to law violations and criminal acts. To interview victims, witnesses, suspects etc. To liaison with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in investigations in their pertinent jurisdictions; Collaborate with the Community Standards and Accountability ( CSA ) office and the various graduate schools in matters related to student policy violations, with the Office of Human Resources in matters related to staff policy violations; to assist the Title IX Office in matters related to Title IX investigations, and with the Clery Compliance Officer in matters of compliance and case management, and other Dartmouth offices/departments as assigned.

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
• An associate degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
• Three plus years of experience as an investigator/detective, in the field of security or law enforcement, preferably in a college or university setting.
• Strong interpersonal skills and knowledge of interviewing techniques, with strong oral and written communication skills as well as organizational skills, with the ability to focus and pay close attention to details.
• Knowledge of investigative procedures, principles, and techniques, and experience with criminal laws, rules of evidence, search and seizure, and court procedures; skilled in evidence handling techniques and protocols.
• Computer literacy in public safety technology to include MSOffice, Lenel and other access control systems, equipment, alarm systems; INFORMANT or other records management system.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and be qualified under the terms of the Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy
• A demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others, and to serving the needs of a diverse community with the ability to deal with young adults, faculty, and staff in an academic environment that values and promotes diversity.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Five plus years of direct experience in investigations, or five to eight years as a supervisor, within a university public safety agency.
• Skilled at interviewing students related to potential wrongdoing, policy violations or criminal acts; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Skilled at analysing complex information and data.
• Experience and/or training in trauma informed interviewing.
• Experience with and knowledge of modern, efficient public safety technologies and contemporary campus safety and security strategies, to include emergency management, environmental health and safety, Infectious Disease Control, Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, and prevention issues as well as local, state, and federal laws including Clery Act, FERPA, etc.

Description
Responsible for conducting investigations to secure, examine, and process incident scenes, including follow up investigations for reported incidents of violations of policy, conduct, law, or criminal activity; Conducts, follows up and documents investigations from start until case closure or final disposition and tracks status of cases. Via fact finding, clarifies the nature of allegations/acts/violations and determines investigatory steps (interviews, evidence collection, etc.) needed.

Secures, examines incident scenes, and collects relevant clues and evidence; maintains property custody and control records of collection, appropriate storage, and chain of command; notifies local police when appropriate.

Identifies, locates, and interviews complainants, victims, witnesses, persons of interest, suspects and other knowledgeable or involved parties to gather and analyze facts and to develop leads. Verifies the accuracy of all information obtained and prepares investigation reports and cases for disciplinary or legal action.

Conducts background investigations, reference checks and low-level surveillance as required; assists in internal affairs investigations as assigned. Serves as liaison to local, state, and federal agencies on investigative matters of mutual interest, providing support and cooperation on serious criminal matters occurring on or affecting Dartmouth. Stays current and informed about criminal trends and contributes to the development targeted responses and or timely warning to the community.
