Duties and Responsibilities
The Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for managing financial wellness initiatives and counseling students and their families. In this grant-funded position, the Financial Aid Specialist will:
- Develop and participate in financial wellness initiatives designed to enhance the knowledge and understanding of financial literacy/debt management program policies, procedures, practices and regulations;
- Assess student financial need and determine eligibility to participate in federal, state and /or institutional aid programs;
- Analyze information submitted by students to ensure data is accurate;
- Maintain communication with students and parents on matters related to their financial concerns;
- Stay abreast of regulations and guidelines pertaining to student financial aid; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Education
A bachelor’s degree is required.
Experience
A minimum of one (1) year experience in financial aid is preferred. Experience with financial aid systems is also preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with PeopleSoft knowledge/experience.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Suite, specifically MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, and MS PowerPoint.
- A self-starter with the ability to work independently and respond quickly to changing priorities.
- Effective oral and written communications and project management skills, including presenting complex information and organizing data to audiences with varied backgrounds (students, faculty/staff, parents, etc.).
- Ability to project a professional, polished image and provide outstanding customer service.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to build good relationships with peers and to interact with senior administrators and other campus constituencies.
- Ability to anticipate needs, solve problems and work proactively to ensure maximum effectiveness.
May require evening and weekend work.

This position is Title III grant-funded. Employment is subject to available funding.
