Program Development Specialist


Position Summary

The University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences ( CAES ) seeks a dynamic and innovative professional to provide statewide support and coordination for the University of Georgia Extension program development functions. This is a full-time non-tenure track faculty appointment at the rank of Academic Professional or Public Service Associate home-based in Athens, Georgia. There is potential to be co-housed in a County Extension Office for part of the work week. This position supports more than 1000 full-time and part-time faculty and staff members across Georgia and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Extension Program Development process and developing a robust training system for the entire organization. Occasional evening and weekend duties are expected.

The position reports to the Director for the Office of Learning and Organizational Development. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  1. Provides leadership, direction and vision to Extension Foundations II training for new faculty in partnership with Program Development Coordinators and the Extension Staff and Organizational Development Specialist.
  2. Provide consistent programming guidance, leadership, and training in collaboration with the Program Development Coordinators on all aspects of program development.
  3. Collaborates with CAES Accountability and reporting office, CAES Office of Information Technology and CAES Office of Learning and Organizational Development to develop and manage organizational data systems that support individual professional development plans through the Extension Training System and GaCounts reporting system.
  4. Responsible for management of program planning cycle and organizational calendars.
  5. Identify and foster competencies for program development.
  6. Serve as an academic resource for state and district administration to support needs of the county delivery system.
  7. Maintain expertise through personal professional development and scholarship.
  8. Contribute to the body of knowledge through scholarly work.
  9. Support program development functions of the office (i.e., GaCounts, CAES Impact Statements, and mandated reporting)
  10. Support Extension Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts.
  11. Support additional organizational development activities such as strategic planning as assigned.

About the College/Unit/Department

The Office of Learning and Organizational Development is an academic, research-based outreach unit that empowers Extension faculty and staff and Extension audiences to serve and support functions of UGA Extension and the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences. We aim to strengthen and enhance the academic and scholarly work of the entire Extension organization by focusing on overall program development, staff development and leadership development, and evaluation capacity building through training and support. Our unit provides the expertise to manage and use data collected for reporting and impact demonstration and provides support for leadership, training and professional development.

Additional Requirements: A valid driver’s license is required. Furthermore, travel throughout the state of Georgia is a requirement of this position, and State vehicles are not always available. Candidates must be willing to provide the means for business travel to complete this essential job function.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and public relations skills along with good oral and written communication skills. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in program development with a background that includes professional development trainings, organizational development, employee coaching and mentoring programs, and conducting research through design, implementation, and evaluation. Candidates should also have an appreciation and understanding of Extension programs and understand the diverse programming offered by Extension. Candidates should have excellent organizational skills and be able to manage multiple programs. A background that includes working with or in a county-based Extension system, as well as evidence of curriculum development is also highly desirable.
