Founded in 1947, the Philip Merrill College of Journalism has approximately 650 undergraduate and graduate students and approximately 60 faculty and staff. Merrill is located just 10 miles from the White House and was chosen as one of 12 top journalism schools that took part in the prestigious Carnegie-Knight Initiative.

Position Summary: This person will assist the dean in the creation of programming that will help attract, retain and develop a diverse community of faculty, students, and staff. This staff member will coordinate diversity and inclusion programs for faculty, staff and students for the college that will fulfill onboarding and TerrapinStrong campus requirements. This employee will serve as point person for extracurricular diversity programing, represent Merrill College on the campus diversity council and participate in multicultural events representing the college as the liaison between other units and Merrill College. This person will be responsible for the coordination of logistics for extracurricular programming and special projects and will assist in the production of informational materials. S/he will also perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree is required. Candidates must have at least three years of recent experience working in the diversity and inclusion field, organizational development and/or human resources. Must have excellent communication and written skills and the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and outside entities. Must have related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job.

Preferences: Experience in a higher education setting working directly with diverse faculty, staff and students and some development of extracurricular programs. Experience with supervising workers, evidence of implementing and evaluating programming, and event planning is highly preferred.
