Carnegie Mellon University’s Career and Professional Development Center is searching for a Neurodiversity Program Manager and Career Consultant . This is a dynamic opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing essential support by directly mentoring students who identify as being neurodivergent or having cognitive and emotional differences on employment and life skills-related goals.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Conduct individualized student meetings to assist students with
self-determined goals related to employment and life skills
- Conduct student meetings outside of the academic semesters to
support the success of students during their summer
experiences
- Provide a comprehensive range of services, programs, and
materials focusing on career development, decision-making, and
professional development tailored for to neurodiverse
populations
- Engage recruiting partners to advocate for employment
opportunities for students with emotional and cognitive
differences
- Collaborate with campus partners (e.g., The Office of
Disability Resources, Counseling and Psychological Services,
Student Support Resources, etc.) to raise awareness of the program
and services
- Host campus-wide events to raise awareness and educate campus
constituents about neurodiversity
- Support student engagement by planning and marketing social
outlets and events specifically for students
- Collaborate with student organizations such as (e.g., ABLE CMU)
to jointly plan events, awareness-raising activities, and other
forms of engagement for students and the broader CMU
community
- Other duties as assigned
You should demonstrate:
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, technological,
communication and presentation skills.
- Experience in assessing program and service
effectiveness.
- A desire for continuous improvement and willingness to engage
multiple partners in examining program/service effectiveness.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of
students, faculty, and staff
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 1-3 years’ experience advising, mentoring and/or coaching
neurodivergent individuals on employment skills in a company,
nonprofit, or higher education setting; 3+ years of experience is
preferred
- Knowledgeable in student success strategies for neurodivergent
individuals; Practiced on strategies to support individuals
handling challenges stemming from emotional health and cognitive
differences.
- Proven track record in training, educating, and/or
awareness-raising about neurodiversity or a related field.
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which
comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
