Job Summary
The Strayer-Scherer lab is seeking a highly motivated individual to provide professional research and extension assistance in the area of IPM for row crop and ornamental diseases. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for coordinating the peanut disease research program.
This is a multi-year program; however, the contract is for one year with the possibility of annual extensions depending on the performance of the successful candidate and the availability of funding.

Essential Functions
Working alongside Strayer-Scherer Lab personnel to conduct high quality IPM research for peanut diseases in Alabama. The individual may also have to opportunity help with projects related to diseases of cotton, small grains, ornamentals, and turf.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assists in the development of project proposals, plans and protocols for the program, including setting up field trials in collaboration with the P.I and industry representatives.
- Collects research data including disease ratings and yield parameters by traveling to AAES research stations across Alabama.
- Assists with recording, compiling, processing, and analyzing data.
- Documents research results and observations in writing as well as presenting results to others including providing research reports to industry cooperators/collaborators.
- May assist in the preparation of research results for publication or presentations at professional meetings and conferences.
- May assist in training undergraduate and graduate students in peanut and crop disease research.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Skills and Abilities
- Basic math knowledge, understanding of basic plant pathology principles, and basic understanding of good research practices.
- Ability to think analytically, ability to work independently and with others, highly organized, ability to communicate research findings to a diverse group of stakeholders, and ability to or learn how to perform basic statistical analysis.
- Ability to work in adverse conditions such as the US Southeast’s high heat and humidity levels.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Comfortable driving, especially long distances.
Minimum License and Certifications
A valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one prior to employment.
