Emporia State University looks to fill a full-time instructor faculty position that will have the following duties:

  • Approximately 75% of their time will be assigned as an instructor.  They will be expected to teach our general education physical science course for elementary school teachers (PS115 Our Physical World) and sections of our general chemistry lab course (CH121) as needed which supports our nursing program.  The remaining 25% of this faculty member’s responsibilities will be focused on science outreach including administering our Science and Math Education Center, developing a long-term relationship with state science fair activities, providing support to student teachers, and coordination of science outreach events for primary and secondary education students and teachers as well as the general public. 

Minimum requirements are:

  • An educational background and teaching experience necessary to act as the instructor of record for the specific courses mentioned above, Master’s degree in chemistry, physical sciences, physics, or science education.  Preferred qualifications include secondary education science teaching experience; college science teaching experience; experience planning, coordinating, and implementing science outreach events; experience working with science fairs; or a Ph.D. in physical science education.

The Department of Physical Sciences includes faculty with teaching responsibilities in Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics, and Physical Science (Secondary Education). Departmental resources include the James S. and Susan E.W. Aber Geospatial Analysis Computer Lab, the Johnston Geology Museum, the Peterson Planetarium, the Hamilton Quarry Natural Area, and the Science and Math Education Center as well as specially equipped labs for Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Instrumental Chemistry. We also have access to the Schmidt Museum of Natural History, the Profit Aquatic Research and Outreach Center, and Campus Woods as well as other Natural Areas.

Emporia is a small community of about 25,000 and lies adjacent to the Flint Hills in East Central Kansas. Interstate 35 and the Kansas Turnpike pass through Emporia and provide easy access to Topeka, Wichita, and Kansas City.
