Position Summary

As a Desktop Support/User Support Technician, you will serve as the primary contact for issue resolution related to PC hardware, networking, and applications issues for students, faculty, and staff in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and the UBMD Practice Plans and serves as a backup to the AV/User Support Technician in the Office of Medical Computing.

In this position, you will:
  • determine issues, record problem/incident and resolution tickets, escalate problems as needed;
  • provides direct operational services and assistance to all user departments;
  • respond directly to user support requests by phone, email, ticket system, or in person to effect problem resolution;
  • install, update, and provide technical support in the use of PC equipment as necessary.

You will provide users with linkage to centrally supported IT and AV services as needed. Coverage will include the Jacobs Schools sites as well as the UBMD Practice Plans remote sites. Work may include weekends and out of hours events.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of experience or professional certification with no experience.
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Requires local travel.
  • Appointees will be required to have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Specific MAC /PC/Application trouble shooting experience and MAC /PC OS skills.
  • CompTIA A+ Certification.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Experience working in a medical practice environment.
  • Experience with one or more of the following tools (or similar): MS 365, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Panopto, SCCM, BOX, MS OneDrive, JAMF, Beyond Trust (Bomgar), Windows OS Pro (10,11), MACOS .
  • Effectiveness in working with diverse people having a broad range of skill levels and disciplinary backgrounds.
Physical Demands
  • Candidate must be able to differentiate colors used for standard wire coding, and use standard AV and telecommunications tools and equipment.
  • Work may require moderate physical exertion including moving hardware over 50 pounds with or without accommodations.

$55,000 - $65,000
