Summary of Job Duties:The Upward Bound program is seeking to hire two Coordinator positions. The Coordinator is involved in all aspects of the Upward Bound grant including planning, developing, and implementing program activities and services that promote academic success and secondary and post-secondary completion. The Coordinator works with fellow Upward Bound staff in participant recruitment and selection, academic support, recordkeeping, Summer Academy and Bridge programming, and other comparable duties. Upward Bound is a part of the TRIO umbrella and is fully funded by the Department of Education. The position reports to the Executive Director of Upward Bound.
Qualifications:
Required Education and/or Work Experience: Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and at least two years of work experience in a secondary or higher education setting or related field. Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for part of these requirements.
Preferred Education and/or Work Experience: Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with TRIO or federal grant programs and/or are former Upward Bound participants or who have overcome barriers similar to the participants.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: To perform the job successfully, the following competencies are required for the essential functions of this position:
- Ability to generate interest in post-secondary completion and professional careers among high school students.
- Knowledge of learning assistance systems and experience in organizing educational activities and workshops for high school students.
- Demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence.
- Knowledge of curriculum development, competency-based tutorial instruction, and educational technology.
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively, both independently and in a diverse team environment.
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively prioritize multiple work priorities and organize various projects and to follow safety and confidentiality protocols.
- Ability to handle multiple high priority projects and operate at times in a stressful environment.
- Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that fosters teamwork and effective leadership with subordinates.
- Requires consistent on-time attendance.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Assist with the assessment of the participant’s academic needs and implementation of support.
- Assist in planning, developing, and implementing program activities throughout the year. This includes advising, Saturday Scholars Academies, college visits, cultural enrichment events, orientations, Summer Academy and Bridge programming.
- Assist with participant recruitment, selection, and recordkeeping. Traveling to area high schools during recruitment season is required.
- Maintain relationships with participants, families, school officials, community stakeholders, and university staff.
- Assist with daily operations of the office.
- Engage in professional development meetings and conferences.
- Collaborate with university staff on institutional initiatives, and serve on university committees.
- Other duties as assigned.
Working Relationships: The Coordinator works closely with the target schools, parents, community businesses and agencies, and faculty and staff at the university.
Background Check Requirements. Criminal background check; Arkansas Mandated Reporters training; and MVR (motor vehicle registry) required for this position.
Salary Information:
$40,526/Year
