The Department of Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in the non-tenure clinician educator track. Expertise is required in the specific area of one or more surgical subspecialties. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Must also be certified by the applicable professional surgical specialty board.

Teaching responsibilities may include clinical and didactic instruction and supervision of medical students and surgery residents.

Clinical responsibilities may include care for patients presenting with concerns related to a surgical specialty.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include clinical research related to the applicant's area(s) of interest.

The successful applicant will serve as Chair of the Department of Surgery at Pennsylvania Hospital, a full member institution of the University of Pennsylvania Health System and the nation's oldest hospital. Responsibilities will include coordination of clinical and administrative issues related to the following surgical sections: general surgery, breast surgery, colorectal surgery, plastic surgery, thoracic surgery, urology, vascular surgery, and ophthalmology. In addition, the holder of this position will have clinical oversight of the ambulatory surgery center, as well as all teaching activities in the department, in conjunction with the Perelman School of Medicine/University of Pennsylvania surgical residency programs. The total administrative time commitment will be approximately 30%.
