The Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Education, Culture, and Society Program.


Qualifications
As part of Penn GSE's institutional commitment to political, democratic, and civic equity in education, and the ECS program’s similar thematic focus, we seek candidates who have strong training in education and related social science and humanities disciplines (such as sociology, political science, anthropology, history, or philosophy) and whose scholarship focuses on the political and critical dimensions of education, broadly defined. Of special interest are scholars whose research addresses issues of race and urban education, gender and sexuality, immigration, critical disability studies or the politics of education, including the role of education in sustaining political and civic discourse and addressing social inequality, in the U.S. and/or internationally. The successful candidate will have strong disciplinary training, demonstrate clear scholarly promise, and will be able to teach courses in the social foundations of education as well as in qualitative and ethnographic methods. We seek an early career scholar with a strong commitment to research, publishing, and graduate teaching and mentoring. Candidates should have their Ph.D. degrees in hand by June 2023.
