Position: Assistant Professor of Sociology (Sociology of Youth)
Effective Date: August 17, 2023 (Fall Semester)
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Sociology or a related field. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2023.
• Specialization in the area of Sociology of Youth
• Demonstrated potential for successful teaching at the college level
• Demonstrated potential for continued development of research, scholarly, and creative activities in the area of Sociology of Youth
• Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Preferred Qualifications:

• Evidence of scholarship and/or teaching in the area of Sociology of Youth, with a focus on one or more of the following: critical youth studies; youth, schools and other community institutions; race and girlhood; youth, policing and justice; youth cultures and identity formations; youth-based social movements; youth and health disparities; youth and social policies; quantitative or qualitative research methods
• Demonstrated ability to mentor students and supervise research
• Evidence of service in an academic institution or the community
• Experience of successfully working with populations demographically and socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body

Duties:

• Teach courses in the Sociology department i.e., Youth, Policing, and Justice; Sociology of Families; Sociology of Gender; Child Abuse and Prevention; Social Stratification; Racism, Power, and Inequality; Quantitative or Qualitative Research Methods. [Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.]
• Develop potential courses in the candidate's area(s) of expertise
• Develop and engage in ongoing research, scholarly and creative activities leading presentations and publications
• Mentor students and supervise student research
• Develop curricula to meet the needs of a diverse student body
• Participate in service to the department, college, university, and community
