Saint Louis University (SLU), a Catholic Jesuit liberal arts university dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service, seeks applicants for a full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Theatre Design in the Theatre & Dance Program of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, beginning August 15, 2023. The Theatre & Dance program offers an undergraduate major and minor in Theatre and a minor in Dance. SLU's Theatre & Dance program collaborates as a theatrical company, fostering commitment to our community while strengthening student abilities in performance, design, direction, dramaturgy, and management. The dance minor investigates the expressive potential of dance.

Program seeks a full-time, non-tenure-track professor to serve as Lighting Designer and Lead Electrician for two Theatre & Dance Program Season productions and teach two courses per semester. The courses will include general introductory theatre education courses and specialized production/design related courses. The candidate will be active in curricular development, student advising, recruiting, and in ongoing departmental, college-level, and university-wide service.

This position will also be responsible for acquiring, maintaining, and inventorying lighting, sound, and video equipment; training and overseeing Theatre Practicum students; and providing technical support for other occasional programming in the Department theatres. 

Preferred qualifications include experience in scenic and/or sound design, and/or sound technician experience.  A professional profile in theatre and a potential for ongoing professional design work is also preferred. 

The successful candidate must hold an MFA or other terminal degree in theatre by the time of hire. Salary is negotiable, competitive, and commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity. SLU offers an excellent retirement/benefits package.
