The Center for Population Health IT (CPHIT) is looking for a Senior Biostatistician to work as an integral part of our team. The biostatistician will collaborate with the globally recognized team of faculty and staff to help support academic research and development of state-of-the art analytic tools to be applied in the US and across the globe. The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong interest in collaborating with an extensive research group to contribute to the development and application of statistical methods to advance the scientific goals of our projects. This position will be filled by someone who will work collaboratively with a diverse team of investigators including students, faculty and staff to provide statistical design expertise, data management, and data analyses to answer research questions using electronic data including but not limited to administrative claims data, electronic health data, US census data, etc.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work with investigators to determine the statistical framework for answering the study objective.
  • Draft statistical plans.
  • Generate analytic data sets and analyze data to answer scientific questions.
  • Identify potential problems with study data and collaborate with the team to resolve issues.
  • Document data management and analytic policies and principles including the archiving of code for reproducibility of research findings.
  • Prepare data tables, figures for publications and presentations.
  • Contribute to the technical/scientific writing and reviewing drafts of reports, posters, and manuscripts, including writing up interpretation of results and description of methods used.
  • Attend meetings and provide updates on status of projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Experience performing data analysis on clinical data including predictive modeling, regression analysis, etc.
  • Proficient in SAS, R, Stata or other statistical programming language.
  • Working knowledge of SQL.
  • Proficient with Microsoft office programs (word, excel, powerpoint, etc).
  • Able to handle complex data sets, conduct multi level modeling.
  • Able to work independently without daily direction.
  • Possess strong organizational skills and able to manage and maintain multiple projects.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and contribute to a positive, collaborative, and team-oriented approach with a diverse team.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or related quantitative field, with PhD preferred.
  • Three years related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience manipulating large patient claims databases or Electronic health record databases.
  • an independently conduct retrospective data analysis with limited supervision.
  • Familiarity with diagnosis (ICD-10), procedure (CPT), National Drug Code (NDC) coding system.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
