Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a nine-month, tenure track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor of Directing faculty position in the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies beginning August 2023.
Responsibilities
- Teaching expectations include: 3-3 course load in area of specialization
- Teach courses at all levels of the directing curriculum including Principles of Directing, Directing Styles, as well as directing shows within the production season
- Depending on the candidate’s additional areas of expertise, the teaching load may include courses in Acting, Movement, Play Analysis, Senior Seminar, or various design courses.
- All full-time faculty are expected to engage in service on Departmental, College, and University level committees. This will include duties in recruitment and season selection.
- Full-time faculty are expected to support the production season through the area of their expertise – this could be directing, performance, coaching, design, dramaturgy, or another creative capacity; this may include mentorship of students in these capacities.
- All tenure-track faculty are expected to maintain an active program of scholarship and creative activity in addition to their other responsibilities.

Required Qualifications Include
- A Terminal/Doctorate degree, or the foreign equivalent, in Directing or a related discipline, is required.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching directing and mentoring student directors.
- An established record of directing in the professional field.
- Demonstrated support of diversity, equity and anti-racist practices in the classroom, production, and academic community.
- Creative experience that centers the voices of historically marginalized communities.
- Ability to engage in consensus-based collaboration with students, staff, and faculty.
Expertise in one or more of the following areas is preferred:
- Intimacy Choreography/Direction
- Physical theatre (Laban, Bartinieff, Lecoq, yoga, Pilates, Alexander Technique, etc)
- African American theatre
- Non-Western theatre
- Theatre for Social Change
- Evidence of scholarship/creative activities
- Evidence of teaching and working with a culturally and an ethnically diverse community
