Essential Functions (Job Duties):

About This Role: Learning Specialist serves in a versatile role. They are responsible for the development, delivery, and evaluation of faculty-facing and student-facing learning programs offered through the Office of Learning and Teaching at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Learning Specialist are expected to work on a variety of projects that lead to academic excellence across the Undergraduate Medical Education program. A dedicated professional, Learning Specialist are also responsible for identifying and integrating innovation that foster knowledge construction and skills enhancement among faculty and students that is designed to guide them towards becoming adaptive experts. Learning Specialist develop and deliver professional development trainings, provide coaching support to faculty, facilitate small group teaching, provide guidance in the remediation of student learning, and advance scholarship through research and publication. Learning Specialist function under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching.

Core Responsibilities:
Conduct a bi-annual comprehensive learning needs assessment across the Undergraduate Medical Education program

Lead the development of learning solutions that are functional, intuitive, informative, and engaging and that employ the appropriate teaching modalities for the content being taught in either a synchronous, asynchronous, or hybrid learning environment

Develop meaningful and intentional relationships across the University to create learning resources that meet the needs of the School of Medicine Office of Medical Education and its stakeholders

Develop, curate, maintain, and regularly update content in the Learning Management System

Analyze data against adult learning principles and current trends, best practices, new technologies, and emerging innovations in learning development to implement learning solutions that develop medical education talent

Collaborate with the administration to create and execute a professional development protocol that is essential to the development of new and existing faculty and staff

Develop, monitor, and update individualized learning plans

Track and report both quantitative and qualitative results from training activities through course evaluations and in-person observation to identify trends and opportunities for faculty development trainings and coaching

Develop, monitor, and update professional development plans and calendars

Develop and ensure training materials are current and relevant in order to guarantee a seamless experience for learners

Draft reports and present advise and recommendations for learning programs optimization based on feedback from the administration and other stakeholders

Serve in a mentoring capacity to faculty during instructional planning by supporting them with the integration of instructional best practices that are rooted in the science of learning

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive learning program alignment to the Undergraduate Medical Education curricular competencies and objectives

Collaborate with the administration to identify, develop, monitor, and evaluate continuous improvement learning programs to support new employee onboarding and orientation programs

Create and disseminate technical documentation (i.e. training materials, infographics, and guidance documents)

Analyze data, gather and compare resources, ensure facts, and publish findings that contribute to the body of scholarship in medical education

Perform other duties or projects as assigned

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree or higher in curriculum and instruction, teaching and learning, or other related area and at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified

Bachelor’s degree in education with 5 or more years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
