Center for the Study of Complex Systems

University of Michigan

LSA Collegiate Fellows Program

President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

The Center for the Study of Complex Systems (CSCS) at the University of Michigan seeks exceptional applicants for the LSA Collegiate Fellows Program (LCF) and the UM President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (PPFP).

The College of Literature, Science and the Arts (LSA) and the University of Michigan seek applicants whose research, teaching, and service will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education. These programs are particularly interested in scholars with a demonstrated interest in bringing to their teaching/mentoring, service/engagement, and/or research the critical perspectives that come from nontraditional educational backgrounds and pathways as well as a scholarly understanding of the experiences of groups who are historically underrepresented or marginalized in higher education.  Successful candidates are offered either a postdoc alone or a combined postdoc and tenure-track faculty appointment.  Fellows participate in a program that includes faculty mentoring, professional development, and academic networking opportunities.  The successful applicant can start as early as August 30, 2022.  Previous candidates from these programs include current tenured and tenure-track faculty members in Complex Systems.

The Center is seeking applicants with a research agenda focused on the development and/or application of complex systems models and/or methods. This may involve theoretical or applied research in areas of complex systems including (but not limited to) mathematical and computational work in network science, emergence and robustness, related topics in computer science, or scientific applications where complex systems theory lies at the core of the approach such as quantitative modeling of social systems, biological structure and development, evolution, artificial life and cognition. We are particularly interested in candidates with a record of working across disciplines. More information about CSCS can be found on our website: https://lsa.umich.edu/cscs/

We ask that applicants submit their materials to the department by Sept. 14, 2021. This early submission is strongly recommended, particularly for the LCF program. The LCF deadline is October 4, 2021 and the PPFP program deadline is October 18, 2021.  The LCF and PPFP programs are competitions for scholars across multiple disciplines/fields and are administered by the College of LSA and the University of Michigan Provost’s Office, respectively.  They have slightly different eligibility requirements, selection criteria, and application materials.  The department can assist applicants in confirming their eligibility. Detailed information about LCF and PPFP are on their respective websites:
