Job Summary

The Instructional Designer will work across units in Academic Affairs, including Adult and Online Learning, Faculty Center, and Continuing and Professional Education. They will assist with building courses for faculty teaching online and for the creation of prior learning portfolios. They will assist with developing co-curricular programming for online students to help expand and enhance the online campus.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with faculty and instructional designers in the Faculty Center and the Division of Continuing Education, to integrate existing/emerging instructional and interactive technologies into courses/programs
  • Develop assessments that align with learning outcomes
  • Inform teaching faculty and staff of copyright law, 508 compliance, and ADA compliance issues
  • Assist faculty with the development, design, and course production processes
  • Support faculty and student success
  • Collaborate with faculty and the library faculty to support the adoption of open educational resources
  • Work with subject matter experts to identify what students need to learn
  • Design, develop, and integrate innovative design concepts into course content in a learning management system
  • Adapt instructional materials created for one format to another (face-to-face to online)
  • Create supporting materials/media (i.e., audio, video, simulations, role plays, games)
  • Comply with accessibility requirements for course design, delivery, and production
  • Apply current research and theory as well as universal design principles into the practice of instructional design
  • Analyze course design into a given set of standards
  • Assist the Office of Online and Adult Learning with institutional, online, and co-curricular initiatives that build the online campus of Georgia Southern University
  • Assist with building courses that bridge Continuing and Professional Education with Academic Affairs, specifically, credit for prior learning programs


Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
  • Master's Degree

Required Experience
  • One (1) or more years of related work experience in distance or online education
  • One (1) or more years of experience using a learning management system (Desire2Learn, Blackboard, Moodle, etc.) for instruction and course/program development
  • Experience conducting needs assessments, analyzing data, and making recommendations


Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience
  • Experience with Brightspace Desire2Learn
  • Experience serving on internal and external committees
  • Experience with Quality Matters
  • Demonstrated experience with instructional design in a higher education setting
  • Demonstrated experience working with faculty on web accessibility and section 508 compliance


Proposed Salary

$49,400 - $52,000

This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.

  • Adhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support University's mission for student success
  • Significant professional development or course work in adult learning theory, curriculum, instruction and assessment learning, theory, web-based instruction, and educational media (or equivalent experience)
  • Professional development or course work in adult learning theory, curriculum, instruction and assessment learning, theory, web-based instruction, and educational media (or equivalent experience)
  • Knowledge and demonstrable skills for applying a variety of software applications and web-based authoring and publishing systems (i.e., Camtasia, Turnitin, Collaborate, Kaltura, Google applications, Adobe Creative Suite, Respondus, Yuja)

SKILLS
  • Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skills
  • Demonstrate excellent public relations skills
