The Wheaton College Office of Institutional Research and Assessment ( OIRA ) leads and coordinates a comprehensive program of external reporting, internal reporting and analysis, survey administration, and project management in support of institutional assessment, strategic planning, and decision-making.
Reporting to the Director of Institutional Research, the Associate Director of Institutional Research will be a key member of the IR team with well blended strengths/expertise and responsibilities in institutional research and assessment. The associate director will be a key contributor to assess student learning outcomes and cross-campus assessments. The associate director will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of institutional research operations. The ideal candidate of this position is a collaborator with solid background in assessment and is looking to expand work responsibilities in institutional research.

Essential Functions:
  1. Monitor and provide support for the implementation and management 1 2 of a college-wide program to assess the delivery of, and student learning outcomes in, the Compass Curriculum: (30%)
    1. Identify assessment KPIs pertaining to curriculum delivery and student learning outcomes in collaboration and consultation with an evolving list of stakeholders: e.g., academic departments and programs; the Offices of Academic Advising, Admission, the Provost, and the Registrar; standing committees (Academic Standing, Curriculum, Educational Policy), and others as necessary.
    2. Work with data producers, providers, and consumers to develop intuitive, sustainable, and scalable data assets to facilitate assessment.
    3. In collaboration and consultation with the Academic Data Strategy Director, explore opportunities to integrate assessment of curriculum delivery and student learning outcomes into the implementation and assessment of other strategic priorities pertaining to the academic mission of the college.

  2. With support from the Director, build relationships with departments across campus in order to provide support for assessment, to encourage the use of institutional data for planning purposes, and to facilitate cross-campus engagement in assessment activities. (10%)
  3. Partnering with the Director for OIRA’s on external and internal Reporting Requirements, and survey administration. Below are areas in which the Office is aiming to create a structure where cross-training and workflow management would help institutionalize identified areas of critical importance to the college. The associate director is going to be an integral part of the IR team and be involved in a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: (20%)
    1. External reporting: maintain and report compliance data required by state and federal regulators, external agencies, etc., including IPEDS, HEDS, AAUP, NECHE, SARA, and US News and World Report. Coordinate completion of national and regional surveys by serving as the primary contact, facilitate delivery to participants; and receive, analyze, and communicate results (e.g., CIRP, US News, NSSE, HEDS Senior Surveys, etc.)
    2. Internal Reporting: Maintain and enhance the structure, content, and use of Vital Signs, the college fact book. Adopt practices to make useful information and relevant analysis more readily available to the college and performance with respect to appropriate comparison groups, including institutional metrics such as the collection, analysis, and reporting, including consistency across campus.
    3. Survey administration: Design, conduct and analyze results of annual college-wide surveys (e.g., Post-Graduate Plans, Alumnae/I Satisfaction), as well as ad hoc surveys. Advise on and approve surveys created and administered by faculty and students.
  4. Oversee the College’s survey system (Qualtrics) including reviewing and approving surveys, troubleshooting issues that arise, and creating and implementing the College’s regular cycle of surveys. (10%)
  5. Develop novel and engaging ways to solicit student feedback for survey development and to distribute knowledge gained from, and action taken as a result of, student survey data. (10%)
  6. Maintain IRA website with current departmental analyses and reports; build and maintain a webpage with current assessment resources; and research other institution’s Institutional Research and Assessment web pages to collate best practices. (10%)
  7. Attendance at pertinent meetings, service on campus committees, and providing backup in the Director’s absence. (10%)
  8. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role. (10%)

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervising Student Workers. May recommend the following: hiring, disciplinary action, staffing assignments and scheduling.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in social sciences or other research/assessment discipline .

Provides support for the assessment process by communicating the purposes of student outcomes assessment, tracking departments’ development and delineation of assessment plans, coordinating the annual co-curricular assessment data sharing event, and assisting in the analysis and communication of the results of assessments conducted.

Assists with, supports, and coordinates the reporting of assessment activities and the evaluation of majors and programs, and presents results to campus stakeholders

Ability to analyze data using standard statistical software ( SPSS, R, Python) and create compelling data visualizations (Tableau)

Familiarity with survey methodology and software (Qualtrics).

Prior experience with web page development or the willingness to learn web page development
Good interpersonal skills to work with individuals at various levels of the college (faculty, staff, and administrators)

Preferred Qualifications:

3-5 years prior experience in an Office of Institutional Research and/or Assessment.
