Job Description
The web developer will have full stack web development skills with a focus of front-end user experience maintaining the central web presence of the Newhouse School and associated sites.
The developer position will have direct access to production hosting environments and will be responsible for developing and managing centrally supported themes.
The web developer position will work closely with our Interactive Designer regarding front-end UI/UX requirements and will be responsible for evaluating and implementing industry best-practices with particular focus on scalability, site performance, cross browser/device compatibility, accessibility and SEO .
This position will mentor junior teammates and serve as an authority on best-practices in current web development.
This position will be responsible for designing and developing the back-end CMS in addition to API integrations with other systems used within the University.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent amount of education and work experience (3+ years).
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with others and independently as necessary.
- Must be able to evaluate existing web infrastructure, new requests and provide suggestions/solutions.
- Extensive experience with WordPress, React, JavaScript ES6, HTML 5, CSS 3, SASS
- Proficiency in theme development, plugin development, Gutenberg, code build tools
- Experience with GIT, Graphql, NPM, Webpack, PHP, Markdown, Command Line - BASH, Node
- Proficiency writing reusable, DRY, documented, declarative, and modular code.
- Knowledge of programming patterns, e.g. OOP, Functional Programming
- Experience working with and building REST APIs
- Considerable Knowledge of SEO, Accessibility( WCAG 2.x), Web Industry Standards
- Oversee day-to-day maintenance of the school’s website and management of its web properties.
- Establish, administer & maintain standards related to website performance, stability, scalability, and security that is in alignment with university and industry standards.
- Establish and deploy advanced web technologies and reusable/universal code to existing architecture to align with industry best practices.
- Long-term strategic planning as it relates to evolving web technologies, by establishing and deploying advanced web technologies and developing reusable/universal code into existing infrastructure so it aligns with best practices by university and industry standards. This includes coordinating technical requirements, project planning and visual design implementation with various stakeholders and other Web development teams.
- Develop and maintain new web environments in alignment with campus branding guidelines.
