Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator I
Job Description:
Prepares and conducts inspections for ambulatory care clinics and University laboratories to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Completes duties associated with inspection performance including reviewing safety related information and records, scheduled visits, conducting site visits, administering survey questionnaires, enter result information/data into computer and write reports. Requires interaction with clinic managers, principal investigators (PI), technicians, students, staff, clinics, and departmental administrators, and UF's Facilities Services Division. Operate UF/state vehicle to and from inspection sites.
Evaluate and follow up to correct noted deficiencies. Evaluate survey results, generate written reports, and follow-up field reviews to ensure corrections have been made.
Perform near miss, accident and incidents investigation and follow up with Principal Investigator (PI) to complete corrective actions.
Conducts administrative tasks including but not limited to auditing purchase requisitions and purchase orders sent through UF's eProcurement system for hazardous materials and safety equipment, monitoring and Lab Safety email inbox and answering general safety-related questions.
Serve as a liaison for clinics and new PI to help safely launch research. Perform new clinic inspections and laboratory closeout inspections.
Update laboratory safety handouts and reference materials.
Complete other special projects (as assigned).
Expected Salary:
Commensurate with education and experience.
Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and three years of appropriate experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or Public Health.
- Two (2) years of benchtop laboratory experience, health care administration, or nursing.
- Knowledge of Microsoft (MS) Word, Access, and Excel.
- Knowledge and understanding of laboratory safety regulations.
- Knowledge of health care functions, safety, and biomedical waste handling.
- Knowledge and understanding of research laboratories.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
- Ability to fully, logically, and concisely explain safety issues to clients (laboratory staff members).
