Job Description:

The University of Florida invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor position to work within the ESOL/Bilingual Education program area in the School of Teaching and Learning. The ESOL/Bilingual Education program prepares future teachers, leaders, and researchers in language education to examine and address pressing issues in multilingual and multicultural education. The successful applicant for this position is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, supervise field experiences, and support online course development and delivery. This 12-month non-tenure-accruing faculty appointment will begin August 2023.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Teach (face-to-face, blended, and/or online) courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Participate in program development and continuous improvement
  • Provide service to the program, school, college, university, and the profession
  • Conduct scholarly activities commensurate with expectations of a clinical faculty member

      Expected Salary:

      Salary is negotiable, competitive, and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

      Minimum Requirements:
    • Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction (specializing in language education), TESOL, Bilingual Education, Applied Linguistics, or other related fields
    • 3 years of successful K-12 ESL teaching experience in the United States schooling environment
    • Demonstrated commitment to matters of linguistically, culturally, and socially-just practices
    • Record of excellence in teaching and/or mentoring students in higher education contexts
    • Evidence of collaboration with faculty, students, and other stakeholders


    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience designing and delivering high quality instruction in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats in higher education settings
  • Knowledge of second language literacy/reading development
  • Knowledge of international landscape for teaching English and promoting multilingualism
  • Experience teaching English as an additional language in international contexts
  • Elementary or early childhood ESL teaching experience in the United States schooling context
  • Field supervision of teacher-candidates or coordination experience in the United States schooling context
  • Previous experience with an online learning management system (Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, etc.)
  • Multilingual skills
