ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE DEAN OF HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) at Florida International University (FIU) invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Dean of Health Information Technology. We seek a dynamic and visionary leader that will be responsible for the strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation and coordination of the information and technology systems for the College of Medicine and the FIU Healthcare Network, in collaboration with academic, clinical and research leadership. In addition, the successful candidate will be required to provide leadership in the development and implementation of a comprehensive user training program to address current and future needs as well as develop healthcare and business information systems that will interface with various internal and external entities such as hospitals, clinics and government agencies.

The Assistant/Associate Dean of Health Information technology will serve in an advisory capacity with academic administrators and faculty to plan and implement strategies to enhance technology related to the delivery of instruction, as well as work with research faculty to identify and implement information technologies to grow and support biomedical and clinical research. This position will collaborate with many areas of the university including the Division of Information Technology and the University IT security Office to oversee the overall HIPAA compliance for HWCOM by reviewing HIPAA data security and privacy. The candidate will lead and support efforts with diversity, equity and inclusion as it relates to health information technology. This role will work closely with faculty, staff and students and will collaborate across the university. This position will serve on the HIPAA committee and oversee training efforts and risk assessments. The selected candidate will work closely with the FIU Division of Information Technology, and other FIU departments to lead information management strategic and operational plans, clinical information systems, database systems, operational systems, desktop support and security strategy in the support of the overall academic focused mission.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, information management or equivalent discipline and 3 years of proven experience in a leadership role.

Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree, executive level management in an educational institution with an academic health center, college of medicine and/or other clinical professions. Knowledge of current issues, trends and uses of technology, particularly in a health care environment. Experience working with physicians and other health professionals in developing and implementing technology related to education and practice of medicine. Familiarity with key business issues in the health care industry, particularly related to physician practices, teaching hospitals, medical schools and medical education.
