Ichthyology Lab Technician I

Job Description:

Add barcodes to specimen containers and shelving units to locate specimens and track use

Scan specimen containers to incorporate barcode data into database

Pack specimens in boxes for transport to new building

Assist with management of specimen database to incorporate barcodes

Replace degraded labels and jars as needed

Change degraded alcohol in specimen containers as needed

Maintain and clean work areas in Dickinson and Bldg. 640

Maintain and prepare supplies as needed

Assist with ordering and inventory of materials to maintain supplies

Expected Salary:

$21.55 per hour, commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Associate's degree in an appropriate area; or a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of related experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Biology or related discipline

Familiarity with management and use of of natural history collections

Familiarity and experience with computer programs, including spreadsheets

Ability to comfortably lift 25 pounds

Experience in management of natural history collections

Familiarity with taxonomy and classification of fishes

Familiarity with problem solving related to organization of natural history collections

Familiarity and experience with Specify software for database management
