The Environmental Services Manager is responsible for planning,
scheduling and supervising all environmental services and cleaning
requirements of all College facilities. The manager is also
responsible for coordinating with vendors for the acquisition of
supplies and equipment. This position works closely with other
members of the Facilities team in the coordination of special
events, renovations and daily operations of the campus
community.
The Environmental Services Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating and directing all solid waste and recycling operations for Howard Community College. Oversees green cleaning program and policies for the EVS department, and participates in the LEED certification process for all capital projects.

- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum five years of environmental service supervision, preferably in a college or university environment.
- Must have knowledge of solid waste and recycling functions.
- Extensive knowledge of green cleaning practices.
- Basic knowledge of interviewing principles, and employee relations.
- Knowledge of scheduling labor hours, and incorporating necessary tasks.
- Good understanding of principles of management.
- OSHA Safety Regulations
- Basic knowledge of effect and usage of green cleaning chemicals used in Environmental service area
- Basic knowledge of all janitorial and floor maintenance equipment.
- College organization and operation policies and practices.
- Knowledge of College emergency plan, and departmental responsibility.
- Familiarization with the operation and condition of College owned equipment as relates to the Environmental Services function.
- Knowledge of office procedures in obtaining purchasing authority for supplies, and/or equipment.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- To effectively supervise employees on three shifts and weekends.
- Ability to motivate staff and promote the concept of teamwork.
- To use supplies and equipment efficiently.
- To train new Environmental Services Supervisors in routines and in application of supplies and the safe use of equipment.
- To understand, read and follow oral and written instructions.
- Carries out duties and responsibilities with limited supervision. Makes decisions and establishes work priorities on essentially procedure-oriented operations.
- To set up detailed and comprehensive schedule of labor-hours and supply materials.
- To make yearly budgets and projection of 5 years cost on equipment and supplies.
- To develop staffing plans to accommodate college growth.
- To effectively and efficiently maintain the College facilities in respect to Environmental Services and cleanliness.
- Schedule inspections of all facilities and immediate needs as required in area of responsibility.
- Effectively monitor the floor care of stripping, waxing, buffing and shampooing.
- Inventory supplies necessary for efficient operation.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Possession of a valid Maryland State Motor vehicle operator's license.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Regular attendance is a requirement of this job
- Performs all duties while considering the impact of any actions on the college's sustainability initiatives in the areas of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity.
