The Senior Director of Total Rewards reports to the AVP of
IMPACT and Decision Support and manages a high-performing team
responsible for the comprehensive portfolio of Total Rewards. The
team consists of 30 full-time employees in the functional areas of
Benefits; Faculty & Employee Assistance Program
(FEAP); and Wellness.
The Senior Director will lead the strategic direction of
Total Rewards, integrating best practices, market trends, and
employee feedback to adapt to the customer and workforce needs.
This critical role contributes to an organizational environment
that motivates, attracts, and retains a diverse and high-performing
workforce as a key member of a central human resources office for

The successful candidate possesses a record of
inspirational and accomplished leadership in complex environments
along with the highest level of commitment to advancing the mission
of UVA. Experience managing a Total Rewards portfolio within higher
ed and/or healthcare will be especially valued.
Bringing a strong understanding of leading practices, the
Senior Director must be a strategic, creative, thoughtful, and
collaborative leader who recognizes the value and tremendous impact
of Total Rewards on the recruitment, retention, and wellness of
highly qualified employees.
A continuous learner, the Senior Director will have a
strong grasp on industry trends and opportunities along with a
track record of mentoring staff, creating a positive and equitable
team environment, and inspiring others to do their best work in a
culture of creativity, inclusion, accountability, and growth. They
will be excited to apply their experiences and knowledge and to
think creatively and thoughtfully in ensuring that UVA is an
industry leader in Total Rewards.
The successful candidate will be a flexible and agile

improvement within Total Rewards and work collaboratively across
departments and portfolios to effectively meet shifting priorities
and organizational challenges.
They will have exceptional personal and professional

individual will have self-confidence with genuine humility and will
be an active and engaged listener.
Other qualifications include:
- Minimum 5-7 years of relevant and progressive leadership and
management experience within a highly complex organization,
preferably in higher education and/or academic medicine.
- Subject-matter expertise and management experience related to
at least one aspect of the Total Rewards portfolio (Compensation;
Benefits; FEAP; or Wellness) is required. Preference for
familiarity with compensation management, even if past portfolio
has focused on another specialty.
- Successful track record leading, managing, and fostering a
diverse team of professionals.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively, collaboratively,
and responsively with diverse stakeholders and leadership teams
within a complex organization.
- Strong verbal and written communications.
PHR/SHRM-SCP certification or functional equivalent
