Hourly Research Technician - Dept of Pathology

Summary
A Research Technician position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Senthil Radhakrishnan in the Department of Pathology at Virginia Commonwealth University, School of Medicine. The successful candidate chosen for this position will participate in National Institutes of Health (NIH) and American Cancer Society (ACS)-funded projects focusing on the role of cellular protein degradation pathways in cancer using cell culture and mouse tumor models.

Major responsibilities in this position include performing mammalian cell culture, and assays such as western blots, qPCR and other related biochemical techniques. Minor responsibilities include working with mice cancer models and processing the tumor tissues. The candidate must be able to maintain detailed records of results from the experiments.

Required Qualifications
At least 1 year of experience working in a medical science research laboratory.
Some experience performing cell culture studies.
Some experience performing molecular biology/biochemical assays.
Good organizational skills and the ability to work in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in a biological field is highly preferred

This is an hourly non-exempt position and therefore is not eligible for participation in the state's health benefits program, life insurance, employer-funded retirement, or cash match programs. The work-hour limit for hourly employees is 1,480 hours annually (365 consecutive days). Work hours include regular and overtime hours, student hours, and any other hours worked in a second job with VCU.

This is a restricted position with no set end date and continued employment is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.
