Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Humanities seeks to fill a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in history at the Assistant Professor level.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Candidate will be able to teach courses is American history, with secondary expertise in gender, race, and/or legal history, or ability to further the University’s 1890 Land Grant initiatives.
  • Assist in curriculum development and review for the B.A., and development and implementation of an interdisciplinary Humanities M.A.
  • Engage in scholarship and professional development.
  • Recruit and increase enrollment in the History B.A., various minors, and interdisciplinary Humanities M.A.
  • Engage in service to the department, college, and university
  • Maintain office hours and provide advisement and mentorship for students
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Scholar of American and/or African-American history.
  • Research interests focused on gender, race, and/or legal history, or aligned with the University’s 1890 Land Grant initiatives.
  • Dedication to ensuring excellence in curriculum delivery, development, and assessment
  • Commitment to the role of a comprehensive university in an HBCU setting
  • Ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate, and evaluate students in field of study
  • Ability and willingness to learn all software specific to Central State University that is required to perform duties
  • Ability and willingness to teach fully online courses
  • Expertise in cutting-edge pedagogy, assessment, and/or community-based teaching (community relations, student-faculty collaborations) is highly desirable
Minimum Qualifications
  • ABD candidates will be considered, and finalists will be required to submit a letter from their dissertation advisor stating anticipated date of completion
  • Training and teaching experience in appropriate fields is required.
  • Evidence of using digital technologies in the learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Ph.D. in History or closely related field preferred
  • Experience: 2+ years of teaching experience.
  • Experience: teaching online courses or blended courses in history or closely related field.
  • Evidence of scholarly contributions in relevant professional journals, conferences, and/or other publications
  • Evidence of using digital technologies in research and/or the learning environment.
