General Summary: R eports to the Director of Athletics, the head soccer coach will provide leadership and oversight for all aspects of the women's soccer program, to include coaching the team; planning, organizing, and supervising team practices; actively identifying, evaluating, and recruiting student-athletes; and working within the NCAA, Collegiate Conference of the South, and departmental guidelines. The head coach is responsible for the supervision and coordination of the work of volunteer assistant coaches and graduate assistants. The incumbent will demonstrate a strong commitment to the academic achievement of student-athletes by monitoring and actively encouraging participants to succeed academically and represent the College with the leadership and integrity, both on and off the field.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Coordinates all on and off-campus recruitment activities within the guidelines of the NCAA.
  2. Complies with all NCAA, Collegiate Conference of the South, college and department of athletics regulations and policies.
  3. Provides leadership, administration, and coaching for the women's intercollegiate softball team.
  4. Schedules, implements, and attends all pre-season, in-season, and post-season practices and contests.
  5. Schedules all varsity contests; coordinates special events, hosts college tournament(s).
  6. Provides financial accountability for all ASC and non-ASC softball functions hosted by the coach/team/department.
  7. Oversees strength and conditioning program for softball.
  8. Prepares athletes for competition and performs post-season evaluations.
  9. Monitors academic progress and class attendance of student-athletes.
  10. Coordinates team travel arrangements.
  11. Supervises the laundering and care of team uniforms, and care and maintenance of team facilities and equipment.
  12. Supervises graduate assistant and/or assistant coaching staff.
  13. Ensures compliance with athletic department facility contracts, scheduling priorities, and guidelines.
  14. Report weekly recruiting contact data and maintain accountability for recruiting/enrollment benchmarks.
  15. Participate in designated staff functions including job related in-service training.
  16. Coordinate with camp staff on summer youth softball initiatives
  17. Work with City of Decatur on contracts, maintenance, upkeep, and improvement projects of Oakhurst field


REQUIREMENTS

Education: Undergraduate degree required; masters' degree preferred

Experience: Minimum two years of work experience at the collegiate level with proven recruiting experience

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Considerable knowledge of fitness concepts and techniques, NCAA rules and regulations, and rules and scoring.
  • Familiarity with recruiting techniques, high school coaches and athletes, and student-athlete concerns.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Strong computer skills in a Windows-based environment (Microsoft: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint), including at least intermediate level word processing and spreadsheet development.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations, as part of a team, and collaborate with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, to maintain confidentiality, and to supervise others.
Other:
  • Irregular hours are required on a regular basis.
  • Travel required from office to other locations on a regular basis.
  • Coaches must comply with all NCAA rules and regulations, and have a duty to cooperate with and furnish the NCAA and the College with truthful and accurate information regarding rules violations. Coaches may be suspended or terminated if found to be in deliberate or serious violation of NCAA regulations.
  • Coaches will be evaluated through an annual performance appraisal process and are expected to meet annual recruitment and enrollment goals.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Expect intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, running, walking, throwing, and occasional lifting of light objects. Work is performed in an office and sports fields, courts, etc.
