TENURE-TRACK OPEN RANK PROFESSOR IN CULTURAL HERITAGE CONSERVATION, COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES

INTRODUCTION/POSITION:

The Department of Art Conservation at the University of Delaware invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Full, Associate, or Assistant Professor rank in the area of Cultural Heritage Conservation to start August 1, 2023. This person will serve as the Associate Director of the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation (WUDPAC, the department’s MSc program) for a five-year term, applying leadership and advocacy experience to guide faculty and student success in teaching and learning. The Department of Art Conservation is committed to promoting excellence in conservation education, and to this end the successful candidate will help us continue to evolve our approaches as we work with local, national, and international partners. This person will advance their own scholarship within this dynamic, forward-thinking, climate. QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

We seek an exceptional candidate with strong leadership and advocacy skills. This person will strengthen existing collaborative opportunities in conservation and preservation and develop new ones across the campus, the greater conservation field, and diverse communities. The candidate will have experience in curriculum development and teaching within or outside academia; a record of research, professional presentations, and scholarly publications; and experience with fundraising and grant writing. The successful candidate will have a vision for the future of the conservation field and conservation education and will be committed to innovation and community-centered conservation practice. Individuals with experience in cultural heritage preservation and a terminal degree in a related field, such as conservation, library science, historic preservation, or archaeology, are encouraged to apply. All specialties will be considered. PhD preferred.

The faculty member’s primary roles will include (1) teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses; (2) scholarship and research; (3) serving as the WUDPAC Associate Director for a five-year term (4) advising and mentoring students, primarily at the master’s level during their term as Associate Director; and (5) service within the department, University, and profession, including the development of community engagement activities and initiatives.

THE DEPARTMENT OF ART CONSERVATION AT UD: The Department of Art Conservation at the University of Delaware is within the College Arts and Sciences. It offers a BA, MSc through the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation (WUDPAC), and a Ph.D. through the Preservation Studies Program (PSP). The internationally known WUDPAC program is operated in partnership with Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library. Department faculty are encouraged to engage with numerous interdisciplinary programs of study and research centers at UD, such as the Disaster Research Center, the Delaware Environmental Institute, the Center for Material Culture Studies, the Interdisciplinary Humanities Research Center, Museum Studies and Public Engagement, the Climate Change Hub, Horn Entrepreneurship, the Center for History of Architecture and Design, and the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture.

The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Delaware offers exceptional educational experiences including integrated instruction, research and public engagement.
