The F-1 Program Manager manages the F-1 team and advises international students regarding immigration, personal and cultural adjustment, and university processes and policies. The F-1 Program Manager is responsible for understanding, interpreting, explaining and applying federal immigration regulations pertaining to international students and scholars and for directly updating and maintaining the US government’s SEVIS database of international student and scholar records and managing the overall F-1 program with the Associate Director/ PDSO.

COMPENSATION: 50,000-55,000

 

WORK SCHEDULE: Regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8-5, with occasional weekends and evenings for special events.

 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

In addition to general advising and processing, the F-1 Program Manager is responsible for additional tasks as follows:
1. Manage F-1 team and act as lead contact for escalated and/or emergency F-1student issues. Proactively identify and resolve serious and complex issues related to immigration laws, crisis situations, educational and interpersonal needs while maintaining sensitivity to diverse cultures and language ability.
2. Advise, process and resolve international student requests and cases regarding
immigration, cultural, interpersonal, and/or educational issues, and assist students in
identifying & accessing other resources as needed.
3. Serve as a University of Utah Designated School Official and possibly Alternate
Responsible Officer, update and maintain SEVIS records to preserve university
compliance with federal immigration laws and requirements.
4. Assist with hiring, onboarding training, and supervises International Student Advisors.
5. Assist Associate Director/ PDSO and lead the F-1 Policy Team, escalating institutional policy decisions as needed to Associate Director/PDSO.
6. Implement F-1 regulatory and institutional policy changes as needed after deliberation and review with the Associate Director/PDSO.
7. Identify, create, edit, and maintain policy guides, individually and through working with the
policy team.
8. Assist Associate Director/PDSO to monitor the registration process, and to assist with batching and alert management through the Sunapsis database system.
9. Manage ISSS calendar, including advisor schedules and processing rotation.
10. Provide prompt and accurate news updates regarding international students and compliance regulations and best practices as needed to faculty, staff, administrators, and campus partners.
11. Assist Associate Director/PDSO with additional duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus two years of related experience or equivalency. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

PREFERENCES:

 

Preferences include:

 

. Master’s degree in a related field and 2 years experience as a DSO, PDSO, RO or

 

ARO and knowledge of USCIS regulations pertaining to F and J visa holders.

 

. Ability to communicate with students in one or more languages in addition to English

 

. Experience living or working outside the United States.
