Assistant/Associate Dean for Research & Faculty Development, 2023

College/School/Unit: School of Information
Department:
Posted: Dec 1, 2022
Apply By: Open until filled

Description

The School of Information at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a full-time tenured faculty member at the associate or full professor rank to serve as Assistant/Associate Dean for Research & Faculty Development. The successful candidate will be appointed in an administrative (12-month) capacity at 0.5 FTE, and will hold the remaining 0.5 FTE of their appointment in a 9-month faculty role as an associate or full professor. This will allow the post-holder to continue to pursue their research and teaching at a reduced scale while taking on an administrative role.

We are particularly seeking an established exceptional scholar with an active research program and a proven track record in writing, securing, administering, and disseminating grant-funded research, and especially in leading others in becoming similarly successful. The Associate Dean (or assistant dean for an associate professor appointment) will support faculty development, and will play a key role in mentoring junior faculty and helping shepherd promotion and tenure packages through the process. The Assistant/Associate Dean also meets with the Dean and other associate/assistant deans regularly to ensure the smooth functioning of the iSchool. Areas of research and teaching focus are open, but should complement the existing strengths of the iSchool's research areas.

Areas of research and teaching focus are open, but should complement the existing strengths of the iSchool (https://www.ischool.utexas.edu/research/research-areas).

We invite applications from scholars from diverse disciplines including information studies, psychology, communication, anthropology, political science, sociology, computer science, and more. Our intent is to recruit scholars with compelling human-centric research agendas that fit with the mission of the iSchool regardless of disciplinary background. Applicants, especially those unfamiliar with Information Schools, are welcome to contact us via the email below prior to submitting their application to discuss how their research agenda connects to our school, as well as examining resources provided at www.ischools.org.

Tenure-track and tenured faculty at the School of Information at the University of Texas at Austin have a 2/1 teaching load, which will be reduced by 50% for the person in this role. Salaries are competitive.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in a field that is relevant to their area of research and teaching. Applicants should be eligible for appointment at the rank of tenured full professor.

For all the positions, we seek candidates with excellent research, teaching, service, and leadership abilities and a commitment to shaping the future of the UT Austin iSchool and the field of information science/studies more broadly. Candidates who currently or will potentially make outstanding contributions to the diversification of their scholarly fields and/or institutions of higher education are especially encouraged to apply.
