Position Summary

The Department of World Languages and Cultures in the IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI invites applications for either an Assistant or Associate Clinical Professor in American Sign Language and English Interpreting (ASLEI), depending on qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will have expertise in teaching a range of ASLEI courses including Linguistics, Interpreting Theory and Process, and Interpreting Discourse. The candidate should also be able to provide leadership around admissions and curriculum to strengthen a well-established ASLEI degree program. This ten-month, renewable, non-tenure track appointment begins August 1, 2023.

The Department of World Languages and Cultures offers a Bachelor of Science degree and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in ASLEI building on a full range of ASL language courses already offered in the department.

 

The person in this position will teach three classes per semester and will have service responsibilities that include coordinating admissions into the ASL-English Interpreting degree and certificate programs. Other service expectations include outreach to and networking with the Deaf community, interpreting agencies, and practicing interpreters.

Basic Qualifications

Required:

  • Degree or Certificate in American Sign Language English Interpreting MA or higher in American Sign Language English Interpreting, Education, or another related field Near-native proficiency in ASL Commitment to fostering a diverse and equitable learning environment Excellent communication and interpersonal skills RID Certification or the equivalent and experience as a practicing interpreter

Salary and Rank

$50,000-$65,000 /FCX
