Job Description
Montgomery College, Office of Student Affairs/Financial Aid, has a need for two-full-time, Financial Aid Counselor's. One position is located on the Rockville campus and the other position is located on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus. If you enjoy interacting with students and their families to ensure that they have the financial aid-related information needed to assist in beginning a successful college journey, this may be the job for you. The work schedule is Monday-Friday, between 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., including some evenings and weekends. This is a grade 27, non-bargaining. non-exempt position.
Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the Colleges strategic plan of inclusion. Duties include but are not limited to:

- Counsel and advise students and family representatives regarding financial aid regulations, application policies and procedures, methods used to determine eligibility, specific program requirements and limits, disbursement and appeal procedures, requirements for continued eligibility, and other related financial aid matters.
- Use comprehensive knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, including Title IV, to interpret rules and regulations as needed.
- Develop processes and procedures and update others when appropriate.
- Evaluate financial aid applications and determine financial aid eligibility.
- Award financial aid to eligible students using independent judgment and discretion to make determinations.
- Review appeals for exceptions and make determinations in accordance with state, federal and institutional policies governing financial aid.
- Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience working in a financial aid office, or the equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Customer Service experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of current Student Financial Aid Office policies and procedures,state and federal financial aid regulations and policies,and institutional policies governing financial aid.
- Comprehensive knowledge of one or more of the following programs: loans, work study, scholarships or other federal or state programs.
- Ability to perform needs analysis and prepare aid packages for students.
- Evaluate applications for financial aid eligibility and interpret and apply complex regulations.
- Skilled in the use of student financial aid data management systems.
- Skilled in interpersonal relations (including serving a diverse community) with ability to effectively communicate,verbally and in writing,and work effectively with others within and outside of the institution.
- Exercise diplomacy, tact and professionalism and maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail and ability to perform responsibilities with minimal supervision.
- Program coordination experience particularly in one or more of the following:Federal Work-Study, processing Consortium Agreements, and/or performing Return of Title IV.
