Job Summary

The Park Group would like a fabrication engineer to help our current graduate students and postdocs with the device fabrication. These devices would be used for neuronal measurements, and this specific position will help us with maintaining the devices. Performs nanofabrication techniques, including photolithography, reactive ion etching (RIE), sputtering, atomic layer deposition (ALD) independently. Assumes high level of responsibility, and good skills in communicating with colleagues.

Basic Qualifications

College background or equivalent work experience, preferably in a related discipline.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

One to two years nanofabrication related work experience (relevant coursework may count towards experience). Our current work requires photolithography, reactive ion etching (RIE), and sputtering. Work includes working with hydrofluoric acid.

Position Description
  • Performs laboratory experiments utilizing standard techniques and equipment. Fabricate the devices that the group members need for their experiments. Assists in the design of laboratory experiments, techniques, and protocols. This part requires working in the CNS, using tools including photolithography, reactive ion etching (RIE), sputtering, and atomic layer deposition (ALD). As well as packaging of the devices, including dicing saw and PDMS packaging.
  • Take necessary training on the CNS tools that are essential for the fabrication processes, including photolithography, reactive ion etching (RIE), sputtering, atomic layer deposition (ALD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). May instruct other staff and students in basic laboratory techniques.
  • Collects project data. Keep the records of all fabrication steps carefully. May perform routine logging and testing of samples; this includes taking notes on every phenomenon that happened during the fabrication process and doing characterizations for the devices, including SEM, wire bond check.

  • Post fabrication maintenance of the devices. This part includes doing platinum black (PtB) deposition in our lab as well as making control measurement with empty devices to check the quality of the devices. Processes, organizes and summarizes data, reporting experiment results using a variety of scientific, word processing, spreadsheet or statistical software applications or program platforms. Performs related laboratory maintenance such as maintaining and cleaning equipment and ordering supplies.

  • May process orders or invoices, or undertake other clerical and simple accounting duties under the direction of administrative personnel (lab administrator).
